Mindset Revolution: The Process

Mindset Revolution is not just about young people coproducing solutions to problems with mental health support. We also want to make sure that when policy people and services commit to implementing an action, they really do it. If they don't, we want to understand why, what the the barriers are and what we can do to change things.

That's why we set up this accountability function that we call "policy change tracker". It helps us and the wider public to monitor and keep track of progress.

We have used Legislative Theatre and a digital participation process on this platform to rethink mental health from the perspective of young people. Collectively we have developed policy ideas that can help change the way society thinks about mental health and the way mental health services support young people.

Over the past year we created two Legislative Theatre plays representing our experience of trying to access mental health support: We are the ones we have been waiting for (part of the Optimistic Minds project) and Mask to Break, as part of the Mindset Revolution project. Through three performances of these two plays, we worked with the audience and policymakers to challenge the rules that prevent us from getting the support we need and deserve, and we created alternative rules that we think can make a difference to young people’s wellbeing. This translated into 9 policy proposals.

On this platform, we designed a participatory process online to gather more ideas from young people within and beyond our Mindset Revolution project. We mapped problems surrounding mental health that young people want to talk about. We invited ideas from young people to address these problems, and we had two dialogues online to discuss and develop these ideas with young people and policymakers. The three proposals below are the result of this process.

Together, these 12 proposals form our Mindset Revolution Manifesto. Here we will monitor progress on each policy proposal.
